You may opt to change color of your car if it looks dirty or the appearance has not remained so charming as you wish. You may save a lot of your money, don’t need a spray gun or a compressor for doing the needful, just start the project with a simple “spray can” if you work with a systematic approach, remain committed, will finally succeed, in making your car, look like a brand new and getting amazing results.
Spray Paint
The “spray cans” are filled with diluted paint and inert gas is pressurized in it. A nozzle is attached over the “can”, on pressing a button, the aerosol spray is released in the form of minute vapors , provides a very fine coated paint surface which cannot be achieved if we use brush or roller. Its use is very easy, you don’t need to mix anything else in it. The aerosol paints are easily available in the market, in different colors and qualities but the basic substance is the same. The cheaper aerosols can be used for primer coats.
Preparation of Surface
Keep it in mind that all basic principles of painting remain same. Prepare the surface of car by sanding gently using sand papers. Remove the dust and properly clean the entire surface. With some little working experience you get familiarity with the job and adopt your own style which deems fit for the whole activity in a professional way.
Proper Masking of the Car
Proper masking is of crucial importance, the spray fumes can spread everywhere in all the directions, affix masking tape or any suitable stuff to cover all areas where painting is not required, no gaps should be left unattended.
Working Techniques
To start with, shake the “can” well, a small ball bearing is there in the “can” that works as an agitator, it starts moving freely and makes the inside material ready for use by pressing the valve button. Before pressing it check out whether nozzle has been aligned precisely and observe that the nozzle sprays outward properly. If you don’t shake well the “can” ,the ejected color will not give a proper color tone. First of all start with primer aerosol spray paint “can” and then apply paint coats. The number of coats depends upon the quality of paint.
The “spray can” should be kept away about 1 to 1.5 feet from the surface of painting area. Start spraying lightly and repeatedly so that paint is properly built up slowly and slowly. Second coat should be applied when the car surface gets dry. Give several coats as per requirements. Don’t give longer duration between the successive coats just about an hour will be sufficient, better follow the instructions of manufacturer narrated on the “cans”.
Resolving Spray Can Issues
If “spray can” didn’t work with the required speed, you may submerge it in a slight warm water for only a minute or two but hot water should never be used for this purpose, this will facilitate the remaining paint to come out easily.
When the “can” reaches to its end, turn it upside down, start spraying again, remaining paint will emerge out. If the nozzle of the “can” is blocked remove it and immerse it in thinner, the clog will be dissolved. Affix the nozzle again and check it in some open area, if it works then ok, carry on the remaining paint job. The spray contents are health hazard, inhaling may prove harmful.
Safety Measures
Wear respiratory mask, gloves and protective glasses during painting process.
