Assess your Optimum Budget

Don’t be amazed to see that the link between painting a wall with your finance. Painting a wall will be associated with different types of cost as you will have to buy different things for the painting purpose.

It is good to know how your capacity is to afford for the painting purpose. After selecting the wall that needs to be painted, you can measure the wall’s length as well as width. Now if you can tell the measurement of the wall to a hardware store keeper, he or she will be able to give you a rough estimation about the total cost for the painting process.

After that, keep the cost in mind and see it is affordable for you to carry on, otherwise buy cheaper products to manage your affordability.

Step 2. Choose the Color

Pick the perfect color for the wall. You can look at others walls to get better idea about which color will suit on your wall. Finally, come to an end with choosing a color. If you can, note down the name of the color.

Step 3. Assess the Wall’s Condition

You have estimated the cost by asking a store keeper, that;s nice, but your budget may be higher or lower according to the wall’s condition because if the wall is new without any damp, then the cost of painting will be much lower.

On the other hand, if there is damp in the wall or if the wall is badly damaged, then the cost will higher as you will have to fix the wall first before going for painting. Not only that, during painting, you will need more materials such as putty or primer on a damaged wall.

Whatever the condition of the wall is, ask to an expert for the costing for the painting and/or repairing of the wall.

Step 4. Buy All Items

There are some items that you must buy for painting a wall. First we should be concerned about your health and for this, you must buy face mask, glass, and rubber made hand gloves.

For preparation purpose of the painting, buy sandpaper, scraper, screwdriver for removing hardware, tack cloth.

For the finishing touch of the painting, buy primer, paint, brush, roller or paint sprayer.

Step 5. Select a Day

You have already done a lot for your painting purpose. Now you will have to choose a day when you can give your full effort for painting the wall. It is likely to spend more than one day for the whole task as you will have to give much time for curing primer and paint.

Step 6. Sift All the Items and Hardware

If you choose to change the color or repaint with the same color of a wall, you should remove all the hardware and the things from that wall for perfect painting experience. Use a screwdriver to remove different hardware. You can move the other things by pushing or pulling those from the wall. You may need others help to move things, so it is better another person for the purpose.

Step 7. Wear Face Mask, Glass and Gloves

As we have mentioned before, you must put on the face mask, glass and hand gloves before starting the painting process. Keep the windows and doors open of the room as to make the room well ventilated.

Step 8. Spread Some Newspapers under the Wall

At the time of painting the wall, you will experience a lot of dust and other residues on the floor mostly adjacent to the wall, so you should spread some newspaper there to take the dirt and residue away from the newspapers.

Step 9. Scrap the Wall

Now you will have to scrap the wall with a scraper such as a metal brush. This will help remove all the uneven things from the wall.

Step 10. Wipe

After scraping, wipe the whole wall with tack clothes. This will need you to sand giving less effort.

Step 11. Sand the Wall

Now, start sanding the wall. Sand properly until you see the bare wall as it is recommended that you remove all the previous coats such as the primer and thus the paint coat from the wall. This will ensure better stickiness of the new primer on the wall.

Step 12. Wipe Again and Fill the Wall

After sanding, you must wipe the wall again. Don’t allow the wall to keep any visible dust. You may see holes on the wall. If the wholes are big enough, then primer could not fill those, otherwise for small holes, primer is enough to fill up those.

Step 13. Prime

This step is very important as the the better the primer is, the longer the painting will last. For this reason, you may need to prime your wall with more than one coat.

Open the primer container and take a brush to mix some amount of primer with the brush. Pay close attention to start priming from all the corners and edges of the wall. If you can prime the edges and the corners carefully, then you will have the freedom to prime quickly on the other portions.

After one coat of primer, leave the wall doing any further process for painting to dry the primer completely. After drying  up the primer, check the wall whether it is finished well the first coat of primer. If you see that there are still some portions that have less volume of primer, you must go for the second coat of primer. Prime and dry the same way as the first coat.

Step 14. Paint

After the complete priming, you will have to start painting. Prepare the paint according to the paint preparation guide. You have to paint the same way as the priming. So follow the corners and the edges of the wall to paint first with a brush. After painting with a brush on the corners, it is better to use either a roller or a paint sprayer.

You should not use a brush for painting because a brush often leaves odd marks on the wall, and thus you will experience a bad finish with a brush painting.

After painting, wait at least a few days to check the quality of the painting. After passing a few days, inspect for the quality of the finish. If you see that the finish is not good enough, you should give the second coat of paint.

Step 15. Clean all the Painting Items

After completing a painting process, you should clean all the items with water and thinner according to its different needs. Oil based paint will not be removed with water, so that time you will have to use paint thinner whereas water based paint can be removed with water only.

Step 16. Replace the Things as well as the Hardware

After you complete the whole painting mission, you now can replace all the things in its previous places. Be careful in placing the things as corrosion between the things and the wall may spoil the painting work. Like the things, attach all the hardware again on the wall.

You must need to use a ladder or tall tool during the painting process, so it is better to manage or buy initially.

You have come to know how easy it is to paint an interior wall of your house. Why not trying for painting a wall of your house in future?
