Color has always been the most important aspect in any field, color changes everything. Actually, lack of color is also a color, so color is everywhere. Painting walls with your favorite color is very easy these days.

How to Paint a Wall

Earlier, people used to call a professional painter but that culture is decreasing day by day with modern color tools in the market. Changing wall color is more frequent than it used to be earlier.
Today, you can color your room in a weekend; you can see the whole concept/theme of your room change, with just painting your walls. With changing times, people have also adapted to new themes and color combinations which were not used earlier.

Today, people are using illusions and textures to paint their walls, to create different effects with the combination of paint and interior lighting, everything is customized. The most important factor being that you don’t have to be an expert for doing all these.
As we are discussing about new themes in color, we can discuss about textures and new themes. Textures will give a very unique look to your wall. In this article, we will be discussing about brick texture.

Brick textures are actually not a new concept, bricks we normally use for exterior, but people are using it for interiors too. Brick texture will give a unique, traditional and a vintage look to your room. It can also give you a 3 dimensional effect if done perfectly.

Things to be considered for painting a wall to look like brick

Color to be used:

You have to decide which type of color do you want to use. The most common color which you would know is red with white edge. This combination is used the most as it gives a natural look.

You can also use dark shades for bricks but your room will look small because of that. If you use lighter shades, your room will look bigger. Brick textures work well with any type of interior.

These days’ people are also using multiple colors, which mean using more than 3 or 4 colors to paint the bricks in repetition, this will brighten up your wall by giving a colourful effect. Your room will be full of colors then.

Wall Surface:

To pain a wall like a brick, you need to do some trick, well I mean to say there are different ways in which you can paint your wall to look like a brick. The first way is very much typical; you just have to make the surface of your wall like a brick.

Now this means that after plaster, you need to make out the edges of your wall, in such a way that there is a clear difference in between the bricks and edges. Then you can simply paint bricks in whatever color you wish.

The second option is to paint a normal plastered wall in the usual way. That you need to paint a such a way that the wall is flat itself, but painting is done so nicely that it looks like a wall of brick.

To paint the wall, you need materials as listed below:
[1] Primer sealer.
[2] Semi gloss paint.
[3] Painter’s tape.
[4] Denatured alcohol.
[5] Trisodium phosphate (TSP).
[6] Paint Sprayer.

Out of all these listed above, the most important for you is Painter’s tape as we are going to paint the wall to look like a brick. So buy painter’s tape in more quantity. Also remember that you will need sharp brushes to paint edges.

Materials will cost you less as compared to paint. You need to take care about the surface, it must be free of dust or any other particles, so you have to clean it nicely as paint does not work well with dust, paint will not bind with wall if there is dust.

Use clean and soft rag to clean surface with some Trisodium phosphate (TSP), you can also use scrub to wipe it down to remove oil and wax. Be careful while cleaning as it is crucial.

The first step is to clean your surface and the next step is to apply painter’s tape. Painter’s tape should be applied at every edge, or you actually need to stick painter’s tape in such a way that once you complete applying it, you see brick texture.

So apply painter’s tape to all the edges, in rectangle or square formation. After applying it, you can start painting the remaining part which actually is the brick part. You have to apply two layers of paint on the brick part.

Once you are sure enough that you are done with brick part, you simple take off the painter’s tape carefully. You will see that the edges are already formed and you will see the brick texture.

By removing painter’s tape, if you are satisfied with those edges, then your task is completed here, else if you see some points where you need to work upon, then pick up a thin brush and start painting edges. Do it carefully as you should not cross the edge boundary.
Color of brick and edges should be very different, for example: if your brick is red then edge should be white or cream color. This will differentiate your brick and edge, also it will give a brick texture effect when looked from a distance.

The other way to paint your wall is by first applying a common color, on the wall, the color should be the one you want on your edges. Now one after the other in sequence, you can paint your bricks on it.

This method is a bit risky and tedious; you need to be more careful while following the second method. Overall, if you find both these methods difficult then you have other options too.

You can buy digital laminate sheets of brick wall texture or you can find wallpaper too. There are many digitized textures available for brick theme. So applying a brick texture theme to your wall is not a difficulty at all.

If you want to give a rustic, vintage and a friendly effect to your walls, then brick texture is a good option. It’s unique and it’s awesome.
